Squeezed on a narrow strip of land between an active highway and a dense residential complex, the Mary Avenue Affordable Housing Project’s design makes the most of the land given. The 0.8 acre site fits 40 units, a community center, and a rental office. Units range from single-bedroom studios to three-bedroom dwellings. The site takes advantage of organic geometry and materials to create a unique experience. In the front, trees and wood screens line a gentle, wavy path spanning the leading edge of the site, flanked by an integrated bike path flowing into the existing infrastructure. Open breezeways offer cozy access.
